Devolution campaign makes front page of Leicester Mercury

The Devolution campaign for Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland has made the front page of the Leicester Mercury.
Today's Page 1 is written under the headline 'We need regional Mayor to unlock growth' and quotes East Midlands Chamber Chair Kevin Harris as well as Leicestershire County Council leader Dan Harrison.
Inside, pages 4 and 5 have been given over to a spread looking at the 'what, how and why' of regional Devolution - and how it might benefit LLR.
It includes extended quotes from other figures connected to the Devolution Leicestershire campaign including Sue Tilley - the Chair of Leicestershire Business Voice - and Chamber CEO Scott Knowles.
The Mercury also quotes from the three Labour MPs who serve the City and County after they backed the campaign back in July.
It also features a Devolution factfile supported by research prepared for the campaign.
The coverage comes after the leaders of 10 councils in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland combined last week to write to Government requesting a regional Mayor.
Who we are
Devolution Leicestershire is an industry-education-VCSE coalition.
Founded in 2026, its purpose is:
- To accelerate a Devolution deal for Leicester, Leicestershire & Rutland
- To press for fair Government funding for LLR while the Devo deal is done.
